5 UNION OFFICIALS ACQUITTED

TUCSON, Ariz. -
Five members of the Arizona Laborers Union have been acquitted of conspiring to embezzle $354,000 in union funds by establishing a severence fund for union officials.
US District Judge Alfredo C. Marquis granted a defense motion for a directed verdict of acquittal, dismissing all charges against the five men.
Marquis told federal prosecutors at the conclusion of their case that he had heard little evidence of guilt.
